Originally the master bedroom, this beautiful room was designed and used by Lord Carmichael when the house was first built at the turn of the last century. Its large bay windows overlook the main gardens and the room is southwest facing with fabulous views to the hills. This is a peaceful and bright room, bathed in sunlight on most days.
Lady Carmichael found Skirling House “most comfortable” and nowadays so do our guests. Ideas of comfort have moved on somewhat over the past hundred years, however, and our rooms offer modern amenities such as flat screen televisions, DVD and CD players together with standard amenities such as clock radios and hairdryers. Fresh fruit and chocolates add an extra welcoming touch.
We believe that the most important element in a bedroom is a comfortable bed, and so each of the bedrooms has a Vi spring mattress to ensure a good night’s sleep. Each room is distinctive and individual, and some have been designed with the needs of families with children or people with mobility challenges particularly in mind. We are very happy to discuss any special arrangements.
Traquair is on the ground floor and therefore a good choice for guests who may find stairs difficult. It has twin single beds and a bathroom with separate bath and walk-in shower.
This quiet room enjoys views to the garden at the side of the house and there is a shower-room and toilet on the same level, which is fully equipped to current accessibility standards.
Situated on the east wing of the house on the first floor level this is a quiet and private room at the end of the house and a favourite with guests. This room has its own hallway connecting the bedroom, bathroom and dressing room. The bathroom, recently upgraded, has a bath with separate shower.
Ramsay is a light, airy and sunny room whose window looks down onto the garden and to the hills beyond. It’s a lovely room with an original Delft tiled fireplace. The room has a small internal bathroom with bath and over-bath shower.
Hadden is situated on the first floor and overlooks the garden and the dovecote. Hadden is a large flexible room, which can be configured with either a 6ft super king or twin single beds. Additionally, Patsy's Room, which can be inter-connected to Hadden, has its own single brass bedstead and is ideal when creating extra family space.
Patsy's room is a delightful single room with a 'half bath' (wash basin and toilet). This room can only be taken in conjunction with Hadden due to the shared bathroom. The rooms are an ideal combination for a family group.
